NaNoWriMo 2014: Day 7

At the end of each week, I'm going to get a little personal. I'm going to show you what makes me passionate to be doing what I'm doing, and as of right now, doing this for over two years.

I would be self-publishing regardless of Amazon and Kindle. During my high school and early college years, I did my best to form an punk rock band. I learned that it's hard to count on others, and in a way put me down the path of being a writer. At least as a writer I knew I could count on myself to attend meetings and to show up for practice; can't say the same for other people.

DIY ethics are part of my bloodstream. I'm someone who loves to get down and dirty with everything I do. Writing, editing, choosing covers, formatting, marketing, I love to do it all. I like having the control to put my book up for free or change the price when I feel like it.

Henry Rollins is an interesting guy and I've heard his views on Punk philosophy; fuck it, philosophy in general is worth listening in on. What made finding this clip a challenge was I wanted something related to Punk, except all of Rollins' talks and excerpts are so spread out it's useless to go looking through it all.

This video sums up many important points for us during NaNoWriMo. Again, use common sense and some imagination to apply these points; you literal bastards.

There are a lot of similarities in spirit and view points going on with self-publishing that went on when kids traded homemade tapes with each other. It's NaNo and time is short, so maybe I'll spend a full post going into those details. Just watch the video and get back to writing. Or Twitter. Or back to Twitter so that you can get to the writing thing.
