NaNoWriMo 2014: Day 17

Let's talk about cold turkeys. It's a funny phrase, and part of our personal twelve program.

I lied, there's no twelve step program. It just sounded really cool. Some would say I shouldn't have brought it up, as you wouldn't have noticed by the end of the article. Maybe that's true, but I can't lie. I admit it, and that's step number one.

The reason I'm focusing on this is we're a little more than halfway through NaNoWriMo, and you probably fucked up along the way. Ideally, we're all writing our 1,667 words a day, except you're not and I'm not. We messed up big time. The good news is we have more than enough time to correct those choices. The Cool Kids Klub hasn't shut its doors yet.

What has stopped you from writing this month? A month dedicated to writing, a month where we all participate in the grind. Rarely are we not in control of our own actions. I feel guilt when I'm not doing something I know I should be doing. And you know what? I do it anyways. Watching Netflix, browsing YouTube, playing video games, going to the movies, having a get together with friends, spending quality time with that significant other, petting dogs, cleaning up the house, folding laundry, reading blog posts, going through advice columns, dusting the shelves, exercising, I'm running out of breath somebody please help me!

Did I make my point? There's a metric fuckton of things we'd rather do than work. I can't speak for you as I'm me and not you, so you have some soul searching to do. Say it out loud, admit to it, and move on from it. November is a detox on our distractions. And it hurts. Keep pushing through it to reach the other side.
