Day 7: NaNoWriMo

Today's post is a part of a series of motivation posts. One will be posted every weekend, during those times we need a little motivation the most. This was originally posted on my regional NaNoWriMo forum. If you enjoy it, please make your own and post it to your region. We can all use the help we can get.

Most of us will say we write because we want these stories to be shared, that these characters need to be released, that we need to express ourselves. It’s an internal experience that we express through our external motions. The process itself is fun and exciting, but from time to time it’s challenging.

There is a confusion that takes place with the challenge and the end product. We start writing because we enjoy it, and it transforms to writing because we won’t have a book if we don’t put ourselves in the grind. Seeing my books on Kindle and having physical copies in my hands are not good reasons to write. They are reasons to write, but not a good or even half decent ones.

Things themselves can only push us so far. When we frame writing as “things” then we lose the emotion and adventure writing gives us. The process of writing is what we want, and when we don’t write, that is what we lose out on. So we try our best to write every day for the rest of this month.

We have an entire month to ourselves to spend with like-minded writers. All it takes is to post on the message boards, or go to the Facebook page, or take some time in the evening to attend a local meeting. This month is your month. Take every available opportunity to enjoy yourself.

If you would like a visual representation of how this month should go for you, here it is. Enjoy.
