Repeating

Game of Thrones

A certain thought runs through any artist's head, "This has already been done before." Even if it's not from the artist themselves, one friend will reference a similar work. "I remember when they called that ________." It crawls under the skin and festers. Soon all the previous hard work looks cheap, a facsimile. The original idea turn to ash, or dirt, or mud. Well you know what? Fuck 'em.

I have yet to hear anything remotely resembling that phrase from anyone who put in the work. It doesn't paralyze me. These fifty thousand words didn't spring up out of nowhere. They were not copied from some manuel. I've busted my butt and the finish line is in sight. So what if there are countless tropes within it? This is not some avant-garde, 2001: A Space Odyssey shit. It's just art.

The idea of comparing two objects makes on lesser is absurd! A Song of Ice and Fire, and Lord of the Rings are both gigantic fantasy stories. Have fun linking all the correlations, because it doesn't matter. Neither will be slain by the other. Go ahead a link two ideas together as many times as possible. X sounds like Y. Nothing happens. Why do we compare ourselves to another's work and feel defeated? I don't know, maybe it's something nerds do to pass the time not working. I certainly put a stop to it awhile ago.

When there is genuine passion put into something it is hard not to respect it. In it for the money and fad? Yea, that's trash.
